Primary producers

Native title may be recognised over areas of Crown land and waters where people are engaged in primary production, such as oceans, rivers, state forests and some pastoral leases.

The recognition of native title does not take away the rights of primary producers.

The native title claims process promotes agreement making between primary producers and native title groups, to decide how rights in areas of Crown land and water will coexist.

For information on claims and agreement making go to the Native Title Claims page

The Tribunal has also produced several information fact sheets on the native title process.
