NNTT President Kevin Smith presented his Mabo Lecture today on Day 2 of the AIATSIS Summit - Mabo Day June 3, 2025. He followed the Chairperson for the Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA), George Nona and Eddie “Koiki" Mabo's grandson, Kaleb, who is continuing his legacy.

Eddie “Koiki" Mabo paved the way using his belief, voice and rights to challenge the High Court that “Terra Nullius" never was and won. This year's AIATSIS theme - Voices of Empowerment: Strengthening our Future pays tribute to a world in which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' rights, knowledge, and voices are recognised, respected, and valued by all Australians today and tomorrow.​​
