The Western Australian Government has released a targeted review of Native Title and Aboriginal cultural heritage processes, outlining reforms to provide greater clarity, consistency, and protection across the mining and exploration sector. Key measures include a new Aboriginal cultural heritage standard for exploration and prospecting, clearer guidance for decision-making, stronger oversight of heritage consultants, and improved access to information to support earlier engagement.
The reforms also consider incentive payments for Native Title parties to support approvals and will be supported by a State-wide Native Title Party Support Strategy to strengthen capacity, engagement, and dispute resolution.
