Register of Native Title Claims

The Register of Native Title Claims (RNTC) contains information about all claimant applications that have been registered. The Registrar is responsible for maintaining the RNTC.

Applications are registered when they meet the registration test conditions. When an application is registered, the applicants have procedural rights and other benefits, including the right to negotiate with governments or the right to be consulted about proposed developments (future acts). They may also oppose non-claimant applications that seek a determination as to whether or not native title exists in a certain area.

You can find summary information about all native title applications by clicking on 'Search native title applications' in the 'Native title applications' section of this site. You can view a map showing external boundaries of all claimant applications by clicking on the link below.

To find out whether an area of land or water is, or may be, affected by a native title claim you can ask the Tribunal to search the RNTC. A charge may be associated with this service. The Tribunal is currently examining the legal and technical issues that need to be addressed in order to provide online access to the RNTC.
