Deputy President
Mr John Sosso is a fulltime Deputy President of the Tribunal and is based in Brisbane. He has been a member since 2000 and was appointed Deputy President in February 2007. Prior to his appointment with the Tribunal Mr Sosso was a consultant specialising in public administration, native title and infrastructure projects and was the first Internal Ombudsman for Civil Aviation Safety Authority. He has had a distinguished career in the Queensland public service from 1984-1988 eventually serving as Deputy Director-General of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet in Queensland, where he was involved in a number of successful native title settlements and had responsibility for the establishment and staffing of the Queensland Office of Indigenous Affairs. He previously served in senior management positions in the Departments of Justice, Consumer Affairs and Emergency Services where he was responsible at various times for matters as diverse as the preparation of legislation and policy, censorship, implementation of recommendations from coronial inquests, trade measurements, fair trading law enforcement, communications, product safety and regulation real estate agents and motor dealers. Mr Sosso also was in charge of Consumer Affairs in Queensland in 1993-1994, and was involved in the preparation of many consumer laws and initiatives, including the national Consumer Credit Code. Mr Sosso attended the University of Queensland graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Bachelor of Laws (Honours). |
