It is with enormous regret that we farewell Native Title Registrar Andrew Luttrell, who died on 7 April 2016. Andrew will be sadly missed by his colleagues, Tribunal staff and the broader native title community, to which he dedicated a large portion of his working life.
Andrew had a distinguished career with over 20 years experience in native title law and policy, State land rights, cultural heritage and land administration. Prior to his appointment as Native Title Registrar, he was the Director, Policy, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Land Services within the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines.
Andrew was appointed Native Title Registrar in November 2014, bringing to the Tribunal a wealth of experience in all aspects of native title law, innovative ideas, and a collaborative professionalism, for which he was held in the highest regard.
Andrew’s passing is a great loss to the Tribunal and, even more so, to Australia’s native title system.
