The National Native Title Tribunal provides high-level specialist support and assistance to clients and stakeholders to enable them to reach enduring agreements.
The Western Australian State Government and the South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council have requested the Tribunal to provide assistance in relation to the alternative settlement agreement for the South West native title claims.
The Tribunal has coordinated the publication of a series of newspaper advertisements that invite any Noongar person to make contact with the Tribunal to provide information and details if they:
- - consider they are eligible to be a member of any of the registered native title claims in the South West but have not previously participated in the claim process
- - consider that the description of ancestors for any of the claims is incomplete.
The Tribunal will record the information provided which will then be made available to the South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council for further action.
Advertisements will appear in the The West Australian, The Koori Mail and WA regional and community newspapers during March and April 2012.
Copies of the advertisements can be accessed below:
To ensure all eligible Noongar people have the opportunity to register their interests and be part of the consultation process, the Tribunal are writing to Aboriginal organisations throughout the region advising them of this invitation.
The Tribunal’s assistance to the Western Australian Government and the South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council is provided under the Native Title Act 1993 (Section 78).
